Human Rights in East Timor

Espanol

Political changes in Indonesia, and in particular the end of the Suharto dictatorship, brought new hope for improvements on the human rights situation in this country. Unfortunately, human rights violations continue. Extra-judicial executions and "disappearances" have not ended, and the fate of those disappeared during the last decades remains unknown. Unfair detentions and trials remain common, as does the use of torture.
