Decree establishing an Interdepartmental Committee for International Humanitarian Law

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia, on its 103rd session on April 1, 1999, discussed the initiative for the establishment of an Interdepartmental Committee for International Humanitarian Law and accepted the following

DECREE:

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has established an Interdepartmental Committee for International Humanitarian Law with the aim of promoting activities to execute international humanitarian law, primarily the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and its Supplementary Protocols of 1977, as well as activities to extend international humanitarian law.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has nominated Dr. Savin Jogan, Advisor of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia at the Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Cutural Heritage, to Chairman of the Interdepartmental Committee for International Humanitarian Law.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has nominated the following persons to members of the Committee:

    the representative of the Bureau of International Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;

    Brigadier Andrej Osterman, General Staff of the Slovenian Army, Ministry of Defence;

    the representative of the Ministry of Health Care;

    the representative of the Ministry of Education and Sport;

    the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

    the representative of the Ministry of Justice;

    the representative of the Bureau of Immigration and Refugees;

    Jadran Hocevar, Advisor of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;

    Eva Tomic, Advisor of the Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has obliged the above departments to nominate their representatives to the Interdepartmental Committee within one month.

The Interdepartmental Committee will work in cooperation with the Red Cross of Slovenia, or, if need be, with other professional institutes and organizations.

The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to manage the organization of the work of the Interdepartmental Committee.
