Dear Mr. Negroponte:
I am an Investigative Judge at the National Court of Spain, specializing in crimes of terrorism, narcotraffic and international money laundering. At present I hold the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Chair of Spanish Culture and Civilizatíon at New York University and I am a visiting professor at the NYU Law School's Center on Law and Security.
As holder of the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Chair I am organizing a project called "Spain Today", to be held this coming fall and winter at New York University, and with which I sincerely hope you will be able to collaborate.
I am of course aware of your vast responsibilities and I realize you must have an unusually complicated agenda. In spite of this I would like to invite you to participate in an encounter, the last of the series, we are organizing for Monday, the 3rd of Octubre, 2005, from 6-8PM.
As can be seen in the attached proposal, this initiative will bring together the academic, political and intellectual communities of New York to seriously look at a series, of themes that, from my point of view, have great relevence for the United States, Spain and Latin America; three important communities that share common problems and challenges.
Over the coming months and until the end of December I will be working here at New York University and it would be an honor and a great pleasure to greet you and to count on your presence with us on December 5th.
I extend to you my warmest greetings and I wish to convey the high regard I have for you and the great responsibility you carry in the name of the citizens of the United States and of people all over the world.
