NATO carries out drill in Spain.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) began on Monday a drill dubbed Ample Train-05 at the airbase on the Gran Canaria island, Spain, the Spanish Defense Ministry said.

A total of 450 troops and 37 combat planes are participating in the exercise, of which 19 Mirage F-1 and F-18 planes and an Asturias frigate came from Spain and the remaining from Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Turkey, France and Germany, the ministry said.

The drill, to last until May 12, is aimed at improving cooperation between the air forces of NATO countries and testing land-based personnel's ability to supply fuel, flight security and the performance of weapons, the ministry added.
