Around 100 million Russians active internet users - Russian presidential advisor

The number of active internet users in Russia in 2016 is around 100 million people, Russian presidential advisor on the internet German Klimenko told Vesti FM radio station.

"No one really counted us. I think that there are around 100 million active users (in 2016)," Klimenko said.

According to the Russian statistics service Rosstat, Russia's population stood at 146.5 million people as of 1 January 2016. Thus, around 70% of the population are active internet users in the country.

The presidential advisor also noted that over the last two years, the number of gadgets in Russia has been growing. "This year and last year is the time when we see not the growing number of users, but rather their mobilization; when not the number of new users, but the number of new devices increases," Klimenko noted.
