Martial law declared in 5 districts of Abkhazia for 10 days
Martial law has been introduced in part of breakaway Abkhazia by a decree of its president Sergei Bagapsh.
The decree introduces martial law in Gali, Tkvarcheli, Ochamchira and Gulripsha districts and part of Sukhumi district for 10 days as of midnight on Sunday.
Abkhazia also declared partial mobilization.
An Abkhaz military operation, launched in the Gali district, aims to restore order in a part of Georgia's Zugdidi district among other objectives, Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh said.
"We have introduced our troops into the safely area in the Gali district near Abkhazia. The operation aims to restore order in the peacekeeping forces' responsibility zone - in Abkhazia and in Georgia's Zugdidi district, as well," Bagapsh said at a news conference on Sunday
