"Thaci could testify at KLA trial".

Kosovo Albanian PM Hashim Thaci could testify at the trial of several leaders of the former so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

They are Sabit Geci and Riza Alija, Albanian language daily Koha Ditore reported in Priština on Thursday.

The witness list in the indictment against Geci and Alija also includes Fatmir Ljimaj, Jakup Krasnici, Kadri Veseli, Azem Sulja, Agim Ceku and Milaim Zeka.

The EULEX prosecutor's office recently brought charges against Geci and Alija for war crimes against civilians in two detention camps in northern Albania.

This is the first indictment to come out of the EU investigation into crimes committed by the KLA.

The victims in this case were not Kosovo Serbs, but ethnic Albanians who were political adversaries of the KLA.

The indictment was signed by EULEX prosecutor Robert Dean, and it pertains to crimes which took place in camps in Kukes, which served as the KLA logistics case, but which Geci converted into prisons for the people who did not fight in the war.
