Kosovo agreement impossible, says Thaci.

Hashim Thaci says Belgrade and Priština "cannot reach an agreement" over the future status of Kosovo.

The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and member of the Priština negotiating team, said in an interview with Priština daily Express on Sunday that "full independence is the solution for Kosovo, and a compromise on the part of the Albanian side."

"Belgrade’s bid to introduce substantial autonomy in the province is hegemonic," he said, describing the Friday meeting in New York as "interesting."

"The meeting in New York has been a clear signal to the international community that the decision on the future of Kosovo as a sovereign state must be made as soon as possible," stressed Thaci.

He added that the agenda for the coming meeting in Brussels on October 14 would feature "a discussion on democratic principles and future relations between Kosovo and Serbia, along with the international presence in the new state."

"After December 10 Priština will harmonize its actions with Washington and Brussels. Kosovo primarily need a status decision and an international recognition," said Thaci, but did not mention a specific date on an eventual proclamation of independence.

"At one point the Kosovo Assembly will make a decision in line with the will of the people in Kosovo," he concluded.
