Iraqi air strikes against ISIS militants kill 70 insurgents

Iraq's air force carried out air strikes that killed 70 militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) group in Baghdad and in the Salah-e-din province. Iraq's top commanders have agreed on a plan to drive ISIS militants from the city of Mosul in the Nineveh province, the National Iraqi News Agency reported.

On Thursday, the Iraqi army regained control over the major oil refinery in Baiji located 40 km from Baghdad.

US ready to help Iraq

US President Barack Obama said Washington is ready to conduct air strikes against militants in Iraq. The US will also send 300 military advisers to the country.

On June 18, Baghdad asked Washington for air strikes against ISIS militants.

Obama said the US was ready for "targeted and precise military action". However, American troops will not return to Iraq, the president confirmed.
