China's armed police hold anti-terror exercise in Xinjiang

China's armed police on Monday completed a five-day anti-terror exercise in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region as part of efforts to combat violent terrorist attacks.

The exercise, attended by some 3,000 people, was based on the current security situation in southern Xinjiang, according to a military statement released Monday.

The drill examined the force's capabilities in force projection, intelligence reconnaissance, information communication, fire assault, comprehensive support as well as nighttime operations, it said.

The exercise also examined the force's ability to carry out missions in complicated circumstances such as in cold mountainous regions, desert and residential areas.

A total of 21 new pieces of high-tech equipment, including drones, assault rotorcraft and all-terrain assault vehicles were involved in the drill, according to the document.

The exercise strengthened the country's anti-terrorism system and examined the battle capability of anti-terror equipment, it added.
