2 Egyptian helicopters carried out Friday's raid on Sinai rocket base: state media

Two Egyptian military helicopters on Friday struck a rocket base of Jihadist militants in Rafah city in North Sinai bordering Israel, official news agency MENA reported Saturday, after earlier reports said Israelis were involved.

"An Egyptian Apache helicopter, accompanied by a Gazzle one, carried out the raid and killed four Jihadists who attempted to install a rocket base," MENA quoted a security source as saying, noting that the Jihadists had prepared three rockets to target vital premises in Sinai.

Meanwhile, Al-Ahram news website reported that the intelligence discovered a plot that Jihadists had planned to use the rockets to target Al-Salam Suspension Bridge near Suez Canal and other vital premises.

On Friday, local media said an Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle bombed the base and killed at least five Jihadists. But the Egyptian Armed Forces said later Israel had nothing to do with the raid.

"The Egyptian sky is totally clear and secured and nothing could infiltrate the Egyptian airspace," military spokesman Colonel Ahmed Ali said, calling the rumored Israeli involvement " illogical."

He also urged media outlets to stick to accuracy when circulating such news that could undermine national security.
