Explosion hits building of Libyan Foreign Ministry, central bank in Benghazi

An explosion rocked a branch building of the Libyan Foreign Ministry and the Libyan Central Bank in the eastern city of Benghazi early on Wednesday, security sources said.

A car-bomb parked in Gamal Abdel Nasser Street blew off, heavily damaging buildings in the area including private apartments, security sources and witnesses told Xinhua.

No casualties were reported, but witnesses said a number of citizens were wounded in the blast. "Glasses were shattered by the explosion, caused many injured in nearby houses," said an eyewitness.

The explosion occurred on the first anniversary of the attack against the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including the ambassador Chris Stevens.

Benghazi has been the scene of several explosions, assassinations and attacks against judges, policemen and army officers following the 2011 civil war that ended the rule of Muammar Gaddafi.
