Republic of Crimea considered accepted into Russian Federation

The Republic of Crimea is considered to be accepted into Russia from Tuesday, March 18 -- the date of signing the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Crimea on the Accession of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation and Formation of New Subjects in the Russian Federation. It was signed on Tuesday by Russian President Vladimir Putin, head of the Republic of Crimea's State Council Vladimir Konstantinov, the Republic's Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov and Sevastopol's Mayor Aleksei Chalyi.

"From the day of the Republic of Crimea's admission to the Russian Federation, new entities are formed -- the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, a federal status city," the document says.

Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar are the state languages of the Republic of Crimea.

The limits of the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol shall be determined by the boundaries of the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol that existed on the day of the admission of the Republic of Crimea into the Russian Federation and the formation of new subjects in the Russian Federation.

The ground border of the Republic of Crimea, adjacent to the Ukrainian territory, is the State Border of the Russian Federation.

The delimitation of areas of the Black and Azov Seas is made based on international agreements of the Russian Federation, norms and principles of international law.

The Agreement sets the period of one month for those residents of Crimea who may want to preserve their Ukrainian or other citizenship. Otherwise they will automatically get Russian citizenship.

Under the Agreement, a transitional period is set until January 1, 2015, during which the issues of integration of the new sub-federal entities into the economic, financial, credit and legal systems of the Russian Federation, into the state authority bodies of the Russian Federation, as well as issues of the military duty and military service in the Republic of Crimea and in the federal city of Sevastopol shall be settled.

Russian citizens, called up for military service in the Republic of Crimea and in the federal city of Sevastopol, shall do their military service in the territory of the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol until 2016 inclusive. Before the election of the state authority bodies of the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol their powers shall be exercised correspondingly by the State Council of the Republic of Crimea -- parliament of the Republic of Crimea and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea, the Legislative Assembly of the city of Sevastopol.

This Agreement shall be temporarily applicable from the date of its signature and shall become effective on the date of its ratification.
