ECHR has not accepted Ukraine's complaint against Russia yet

European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has not yet considered the complaint of Ukraine against Russia regarding possible violations of the European Human Rights Convention. Spokesperson for ECHR Tracey Turner-Tretz said this on Friday to Itar-Tass correspondent. "The decision on the acceptability of the complaint has not been made yet. As of now, it has been only registered in the court's registry," she noted, specifying that it is hard to say yet when this would happen, if happens.

Ukrainian authorities filed a complaint to ECHR March 13. In addition to the claim, they asked the Court to apply temporary measures against the respondent. However, as Turner-Tretz stressed, the ECHR decided to "address both Russia and Ukraine asking to refrain from any action, especially military action that could lead to violation of human rights and freedoms stipulated by the Convention, as well as abstain from threats to health and life of civilians and comply with undertakings".

Now both parties should inform the ECHR on their reaction to the Court's address.
