Kremlin spokesman says Flynn's resignation is Washington's internal affair

The Kremlin will not comment on the reasons for US National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's resignation as it is Washington's internal affair, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

"We would like to refrain from commenting. This is the Americans' internal affair, an issue for the Trump administration, and not our business," he said when requested to comment on media reports saying that Flynn had to resign over providing the White House with incomplete information about his contacts with Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak, held before Donald Trump took office.

As for discussing the sanctions issue with the US, Peskov said that the Kremlin "has been repeatedly commenting on that, so we have no more to say." Peskov declined to answer if before Trump's inauguration there really were no talks with Trump's team on a possible easing of sanctions.

According to media reports, US President Donald Trump has accepted the resignation of National Security Adviser Michael Flynn who acknowledged that he had inadvertently provided US Vice President Mike Pence with "incomplete information" on his contacts with Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak. Retired Army General Keith Kellogg, who served in the military from 1967 to 2003 and was a top policy adviser for Trump's presidential campaign, has been appointed acting national security adviser.
