Medvedev orders Transport Ministry to equip Iturup Island airfield in 2 months

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has instructed the Russian Ministry of Transport to furnish the airfield on the Iturup Island with all-weather navigational equipment, the government website reports on Tuesday.

"Dmitry Medvedev instructed the Russian Ministry of Transport jointly with the Finance Ministry and the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) to ensure retrofitting of the Iturup aerodrome with the navigation equipment for all-weather take-off and landing of aircraft, and to report the work execution within two months," the order says.

The airfield on the Iturup Island (Sakhalin region) belongs to the Russian Defense Ministry and is also used by civil aviation as an airport to receive regular passenger flights from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
