Turkey pledges to back Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh issue

Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told the parliament on Tuesday Ankara fully supports Azerbaijan in the conflict over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

"Let the whole world know that Turkey will be shoulder to shoulder with Azerbaijan until the end of time," the prime minister said. "We will continue supporting Azerbaijan in all the issues, including Nagorno-Karabakh, until all its lands are liberated," he stressed.

On April 4, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara would continue supporting Baku in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He also said that he thought Nagorno-Karabakh would someday be part of Azerbaijan.

On April 2, the situation rapidly deteriorated in Nagorno-Karabakh, the subject of an unresolved dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The parties to the conflict accused each other of violating truce along the front line. The claims came from defense authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
