Former Kyrgyz President Akayev's son-in-law detained in Moscow

Former Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev's son-in-law Adil Toiganbayev has been detained in Moscow, his lawyer Nikolai Polozov said on Saturday, February 15.

"Adil Toiganbayev has been detained in Moscow and is now at a police station," he told ITAR-TASS.

Toiganbayev's car was stopped by road police. After running a check on the driver, police found out that he had been wanted by Interpol since 2005 on charges of fraud, embezzlement and tax evasion brought against him in Kyrgyzstan.

However Polozov said his defendant could not be extradited to Kyrgyzstan because he was a citizen of another country - Kazakhstan.

This is not the first time, Toiganbayev is detained. He was earlier detained at one of Moscow's airports for 48 hours and then released.
