Russian child returns home safely from Donetsk (Children's ombudsman)

A six year old son of a Russian citizen has been taken back home from Ukraine's Donetsk region at the request from his mother, Russian children's ombudsman Pavel Astakhov wrote in Twitter on Sunday.

The boy could be taken back home thanks to efforts of volunteers, he wrote.

"Good news. This night we managed to take from the war area in Donetsk region's Maryinka town a six year old Artem. Artem's mother - a Russian citizen called Svetlana - has asked the ombudsman to help bring back her son who was staying with granny," Astakhov wrote. "Our devoted assistants - volunteers - took the boy first from Maryinka to Donetsk breaking the circle. They were guarded. They stayed at a hotel."

On Saturday night, the boy crossed the Russian border.

"Boy called Artem is going home together with his mother. I thank everyone who helped to rescue the child," the children's ombudsman wrote.
