Donetsk republic to adopt constitution after elections -- parliament speaker

Lawmakers of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) will draft and adopt a new constitution after the elections due in early November, the head of DPR's Supreme Council said on Thursday

"This will definitely take place after the elections," Boris Litvinov told TASS. "I suppose that two normative documents - the DPR's domestic and foreign policy framework and the declaration of sovereignty will serve as a basis for the constitutional law."

The Supreme Council of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic scheduled the elections of the head and parliament of the republic for November 2.

The neighboring self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic approved a law governing parliamentary and presidential elections, but has not fixed the date yet. The republic's leadership said earlier that the elections could be held simultaneously with the DPR.
