Donbas swaps prisoners of war with Kiev

Prisoners of war have been swapped in Donbas, and 52 militiamen were exchanged for 139 Ukrainian troops while one Ukrainian detainee refused the transfer for reason unknown and stayed in Donetsk, a TASS correspondent reported from the site on Saturday.

The transfer was carried out under the formula 'all for all.' So 16 militiamen from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) were exchanged for 103 Ukrainian troops.

At the same time, 36 militiamen of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) were supposed to be exchanged for 37 Ukrainian troops but after one of them decided to stay in the DPR, they were swapped under the formula '36 for 36.'

Ukraine's President Pyotr Poroshenko confirmed on Twitter that 139 troops had returned home on Saturday.

Ukraine's Representative to the Contact Group on Donbass settlement Viktor Medvedchuk, the leader of the Ukrainian Choice public movement, had organised the swap operation from the Ukrainian side.

Earlier on Saturday, DPR ombudsperson Darya Morozova said officers of Ukraine's Armed Forces had been exchanged for militia commanders.
