Lugansk republic to draw up petitions to international organizations

Members of the People's Council (parliament) of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) will draw up a petition on behalf of the republic's residents and file it with international human rights organizations, according to Nikolai Zaporozhtsev, Chairman of the LPR Public Council and member of the People's Council. He was addressing Wednesday's parliament hearings on Kiev's failure to comply with obligations under the Minsk accords.

"Together with the initiative group, we are going to prepare complaints and letters with specialized international agencies - the UN Human Rights Council, the International Committee of the Red Cross - and non-governmental human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International, the Center for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Human Rights Without Frontiers," LuganskInformTsentr quotes Zaporozhtsev as saying. The lawmaker noted that LPR residents will continue to defend their rights by all available means.

The parliamentary hearings on Ukraine's failure to comply with commitments under the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements endorsed by Resolution 2202 of the UN Security Council were held in Lugansk on Wednesday. Taking part in them were members of the People's Council and representatives of the LPR's non-governmental organizations.

Activists of the Peace to Lugansk social movement earlier handed over to Chairman of the National Council Vladimir Degtyarenko 3,661 signature lists with 153,855 signatures under a petition to the UN Security Council demanding to oblige Ukraine to comply with the commitments under the Minsk agreements.
