Syria's Homs gets ready for passing of humanitarian convoy

A ceasefire regime continues in Syria's Homs. At night, there were no shootings in the city. Parties comply with the three-day ceasefire agreement.

Presently, in the governorate continues a meeting between city officials and the UN coordinator in Syria. The parties discuss details of the upcoming operation to deliver food baskets to the historic quarters of the city, where armed opposition fighters remain.

According to the plan, a humanitarian convoy should arrive there. The UN agencies will distribute between the people 500 family food parcels. It is expected that with the convoy another group of civilians will leave the old town. On Friday 83 people were evacuated from there - children, women and the elderly.

Governor Talal al-Barraza says the authorities have been considering to open a second collection point through which from the Bustan al-Diwan quarter could leave 65 Christians who had been sheltering there at the Jesuit monastery.

The humanitarian operation in Homs is held on the eve of the second round of talks in Geneva, which is due to begin on February 10. Local political commentators do not rule out that the dialogue participants may decide to extend the term of the agreement on ceasefire in that provincial centre of Syria.
