Russia continues efforts to release Russian citizens kidnapped in Syria

Russia continues to take efforts to release Russian citizens Konstantin Zhuravlev and Sergei Gorbunov, who were abducted in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday.

"We urge all parties, which have any influence upon the events in Syria, to step up the efforts aimed at resolving all aspects of the Syrian crisis, including the release of foreigners and Syrians, who were kidnapped by militants," the ministry said.

"We also continue the efforts in order to release Russian citizens -- Konstantin Zhuravlev and Sergei Gorbunov, two Syrian Orthodox Christian hierarchs, Metropolitan Paul Yazigi and Archbishop Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim and other people," the ministry said.

Traveler Konstantin Zhuravlev was detained by the armed group "Liwa al-Tawhit" in the north of Syria in the beginning of October 2013. Militants seek to free their supporters in exchange for the Russian traveler, local mass media report.
