Syria to partake in Moscow meeting on crisis

The Syrian government is ready to take part in the upcoming Russia-sponsored meeting in Moscow to discuss ways to end the long-running conflict, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Syria's readiness to partake in next month's preliminary consultative meeting in Moscow emanates from its keenness to live up to Syrians' inspirations to find an exit to the current crisis, the ministry said, stressing that it would keep fighting terrorism on Syrian soil.

The ministry also said that countering terrorism would continue hand in hand with the ongoing efforts to establish national reconciliations in the war-torn country.

It added that the Syrian government was and still is ready to hold dialogue with everyone who believes in the unity of Syria and its sovereignty and independent decision to serve the will of the Syrian people and meet their aspirations in establishing security and stability and curb the bloodletting.

The government consent came against the backdrop of a recent announcement that a Russia-sponsored dialogue would be held in January in Moscow, based on previous talks between the Russian leadership and government officials and opposition parties alike.

Official Russian media said that a four-day meeting is scheduled to be held between representatives of the Syrian government and opposition parties in Moscow by the end of next January.

Earlier in December, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told ITAR TASS news agency that the opportunities to resume dialogue on the Syrian crisis are being improved, expressing optimism to launch the dialogue between the Syrians.
