Media war against Russia's air strikes on IS aimed at ousting Russia from MidEast

Media allegations and falsehoods about the Russian Aerospace Forces' ongoing operation against the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria stem from the fear Russia's crusade against the IS will prove far more effective than all the efforts the US-led coalition has exerted so far. The purpose of these media attacks and coordinated actions by members of the US-led international coalition is to oust Russia from the oil-rich Middle East, polled experts told TASS.

Back on Wednesday, the first day when Russian warplanes started pounding positions of the so-called Islamic State the US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter claimed that Russia's attacks had hit areas where there were no IS militants and added that the Kremlin's strategy in the region was doomed to fail. On the same day Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova dismissed foreign media reports Russian strikes had caused civilian casualties in Syria. UN officials in fact backed up her arguments to declare the next day they had relied on unconfirmed media allegations. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said that all the rumors of civilian casualties were nothing but an "information attack." In particular, he remarked that it had begun long before the Russian planes were ordered into the air.

"Falsehoods, rumors and speculations are the distinguishing features of modern world media flows. With the use of the Internet resources a picture taken three or four years ago in some trouble spot can be placed on the website within a matter of minutes and presented as an event that took place just the other day. We saw precisely that in the southeast of Ukraine and we are witnesses to this in Syria today," the director of the Political Technologies Centre, Alexey Makarkin, told TASS.

The director of the Institute for Political Studies, Sergey Markov, has told TASS Friday's declaration by Turkey, the United States, Germany, Britain, France, Qatar and Saudi Arabia containing a call for a stop to what they claim were attacks on the opposition and civilians in Syria was a "scream of despair."

"This declaration by the United States and its partners in the international coalition is an absolutely coordinated campaign aimed at forcing Russia to stop addressing world issues. The Middle East is the "world's gasoline pump" that provides fuel for most advanced economies. Therefore, the purpose of the United States and its partners in the international coalition is to oust Russia from the Middle East, to upset its operation against the Islamic State in Syria and to tighten their grip on the region," Markov said.

The president of the Middle East Institute, Yevgeny Satanovsky, believes it was not accidental the Foreign Ministry of Turkey was the one that made public the seven-nation declaration expressing concern over growing Russian military presence in Syria. "Turkey is the main beneficiary of the current events in Syria. It is Turkey that has been receiving crude oil from the Islamic State militants in exchange for the pillaged ancient artefacts. It is from Turkey that Islamic militants and weaponry get into Syria. And it is in Turkish territory that the United States has been training Syrian opposition militants," Satanovsky told TASS.

"Both Turkey and Qatar are sponsors of the terrorist Islamic State and the Muslim Brotherhood group. For its part, Saudi Arabia finances Al Qaeda. These countries have been actively using 'friendly terrorists' in the struggle against the government of Syria's President Bashar Assad," Satanovsky said.

"Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia had commissioned France, Britain and the United States to oust Assad. In order to make Germany more cooperative in fulfilling this contract an unprecedented flow of refugees into its territory has been arranged from the Middle East and North Africa. Russia's air operation against the Islamic State in Syria will now prevent the masterminds and the hired killers from doing away with Assad. Small wonder, therefore, they have now presented a common front against Moscow," Satanovsky said.

"The members of the so-called US-led international coalition, who have been failed to stop the expansion of the Islamic State for a whole year have now got scared that Russia has begun to bomb the command centres and concentrations of the terrorists' military equipment and ammunition in earnest. This explains why they are hysterical," he concluded.
