Syrian Army, Hezbollah advance to Kiffeen in northern Aleppo

Last night, the Syrian Arab Army's 154th Brigade of the Republican Guard - backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF), Hezbollah, and several Iraqi paramilitary units - advanced towards the small village of Kiffeen in northern Aleppo after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki.

The Syrian Armed Forces and their allies advanced to Kiffeen in northern Aleppo after seizing the road leading from the recently captured village of Mayer; this aforementioned area has long been a launching point for the Islamist rebels to carry out attacks and fire indiscriminate rockets and mortar shells into Al-Zahra and Nubl.

Should the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies capture Kiffeen from the Islamist rebels, they will ultimately be able to expand east towards the rebel strongholds of Ahras and Tal Rifa'at; these villages are two of the most important villages to the opposition militants because of their proximity to the Turkish border and the cities of Mar'e and 'Azaz.

The Syrian Arab Army's 4th Mechanized Division and their allies have resumed their assault on Kiffeen and Bayyanoun this morning, as they look to capture more territory from the Islamist rebels today.
