Newest Russian Su-35 jets on 24-hours alert in pairs at Hmeymim base in Latakia

Newest Russian Su-35 fighter jets will do alert tours in pairs 24 hours a day on Hmeymim airbase in Syria, a spokesman for the Russian Aerospace Force grouping in Syria told reporters on Friday.

"The jets will be on 24-hour alert in pairs on Hmeymim base, ready to take off any minute," he said. "The principle of collaboration with the strike aviation looks as follows. The Su-35's will shield the aircraft in the air and will increase their field of vision."

"When a pair of Su-35's is in countermotion, the field of vision increases to 360 degrees and covers an area of 400 km around," the spokesman said.

He pointed out the universal character of Su-35's as fighter jets, saying they would shield the strike aircraft and deliver strikes at targets on the ground independently.

These fighters have the capability to track down, to escort and to attack eight targets simultaneous and active jamming stations make them practically invisible.

"At present, we have a task to use these complexes at the maximum possible rate," the spokesman said. "This means we'll use all the weaponry installed on these jets. Each of them can take a payload of up to eight tons."
