Russian, Syrian air raids on Raqqa kill 39 and wound dozens in ISIS capital

The aftermath of yesterday's Russian and Syrian airstrikes on ar-Raqqah city have left at least 39 dead along with tens more wounded in the self-proclaimed capital of the Islamic State.

While some seem to have been civilians, the majority were de facto ISIS fighters; for instance, the deathtoll included two notorious ISIS emirs, namely Ali Moussa Al-Shawakh and "Abu Farah".

Despite officially withdrawing its aircrafts from Syria, Moscow's aerial military operations are continuing unscathed. With Raqqa city still pulling itself out of the rubbles, the Syrian Army seems to have set its eyes on the ISIS-held cities of Palmyra and Qurayteen.

According to the pro-opposition group SOHR, some the death toll included 7 women, 5 children and 27 men. Meanwhile, Russian airstrikes on Palmyra city have killed 18 confirmed ISIS fighters over the past 48 hours.

According to other reports, notably from the insider-group 'Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently' the actual death toll exceeded 40 but was downplayed by Islamic State officials. The group also added, that many airstrikes had struck ISIS militants north of the city, where Jihadists and Kurdish militants are currently fighting it out.
