Moscow waiting for Turkey's reaction to reports of killed Syrian refugees — diplomat

Moscow is waiting for the international community to react to media reports that Syrian refugees are killed on the border with Turkey, Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Thursday.

"According to The Times, Turkish border guards opened fire at refuges from Syria. As a result, eight people were killed, including women and children. This is not the first such case. Over the last four months, 16 people, including three children, were killed by Turkish border guards," Zakharova said.

"We are waiting for Ankara and international community to react to this information," she added. The diplomat called for "stopping this horrendous situation on the Turkish-Syrian border."

The Times wrote in an article published on March 31 that "Turkish border forces are shooting refugees dead as they flee the civil war in Syria." "Sixteen migrants, including three children, were killed by guards as they crossed into Turkey over the past four months, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring organization," The Times added.
