One more Syrian settlement joins reconciliation process - Russian reconciliation center


A reconciliation agreement has been reached with representatives of one more settlement in the Syrian province of Daraa in the past day, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily bulletin posted on the Russian defense ministry's website on Sunday.

"The number of settlement joining the reconciliation process has reached 101," the bulletin says.

According to the bulletin, talks on joining the regime of cessation of hostilities were held with field commanders of armed opposition groups in the provinces of Damascus, Hama and Homs.

"The number of armed groups that declared their commitment to the ceasefire terms remains unchanged - 58," the bulletin says.

A ceasefire regime brokered by Russia and the United States on February 22 officially came into effect in Syria at midnight Damascus time on February 27. This does not cover terrorist groups such as Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra, both outlawed in Russia, and other groups recognized as terrorist by the United Nations Security Council.

An hour before the ceasefire came into force, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution in support cessation of hostilities in Syria. The document was initiated by Russia and the United States and won support from all the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council.

Ceasefire generally observed in most of Syria's provinces

The ceasefire regime has been generally observed in most of Syria's provinces, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily bulletin.

"Seven ceasefire violations were reported in the past day (two - in the province of Aleppo, five - in the province of Damascus," the bulletin says.

According to the bulletin, militants of the Jaysh al-Islam group which aligns itself with the opposition twice shelled Aleppo's al-Zahra and al-Assad districts from mortars and multiple missile launcher systems.

"In the province of Damascus, Jaysh al-Islam militants opened fire from mortars and firearms at positions of government forces near the settlements of Harasta, Jobar, Zibdin and Qasmiya, and Damascus' district of Harasta al-Basal," the center said.

No air strikes were delivered by the Russian air group and the Syrian air force at armed opposition group which have declared cessation of hostilities and referred their coordinates to the Russian or U.S. reconciliation centers, the bulletin says.

1.5 tons of humanitarian aid delivered to Syrian children's home

A total of 1.5 tons of humanitarian aid have been delivered to a children's home in Damascus, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily bulletin.

According to the document, humanitarian convoys are being formed for people living in Syria's provinces of Homs and Latakia.

Groups constituting the international terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra are continuing combat operations with the aim of disrupting truce in Syria, as follows from a news bulletin. "Groups controlled by Jabhat al-Nusra resumed attacks near the settlement of Qaramanli in the province of Latakia," the bulletin says.

Syrian government troops repelled numerous attempts by Islamic State groups to seize hills in the vicinity of the cities of Palmyra and Tifour.

The Russian reconciliation center aims to assist armed groups in Syria in concluding ceasefire agreements, maintain the truce regime, control its observance and organize the delivery of humanitarian cargoes to civilians.
