Jihadist rebels at the doorsteps of Hama City

The jihadist rebels of Jund Al-Aqsa (Syrian Al-Qaeda franchise), alongside Ajnad Al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army (FSA), seized the village of Ma'ardes today after a short battle with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

With the capture of Ma'ardes today, the jihadist rebels are now within 5 km of Hama City, leaving the Syrian Armed Forces with their backs against the wall as they wait for their reinforcements to counter.

While the likelihood of the jihadists seizing Hama City is slim, the Syrian Arab Army has been forced to send some of their best forces from the Aleppo Governorate to this front in order to help drive back Jund Al-Aqsa.

Even if Jund Al-Aqsa is not able to maintain these gains in northern Hama, they have successfully forced the Syrian Arab Army to divert their attention to one of the least important fronts because losing the provincial capital would be a public relations nightmare for the government.
