Jund al-Aqsa officially joins Syria's al-Qaeda branch to stop recent bloodbath

The ISIS-affiliated Jund al-Aqsa has paid allegiance to Jabhet Fateh al-Sham (formerly al-Nusra Front), thus ending days-long battles with rival jihadi groups in Hama and Idlib provinces.

The merging was announced via an official statement released earlier today by the ultraconservative group.

"In light of the critical situation whereby recent implication have given the opportunity for Assad regime to recapture all the recently-liberated areas in Hama, and to stop the bloodbath among (Muslim) jihadists and overcome the infighting between us (Jund al-Aqsa) and Ahrar al-Sham - only benefited from by the regime and its allies - we, hereby, pay allegiance to JFS, and together will carry on the holy jihad against the infidels", the statement said.

The statement, published in handwriting and signed by Emirs of both groups, also noted that all recent disputes and unresolved issues will be referred to the Shariah judiciary.

Fierce infighting broke out between the two groups whereby Ahrar al-Sham managed to expel Jund al-Aqsa from several villages and towns in the southwestern province of Idlib. Hundreds of militants from both sides have been killed and wounded in the clashes.
