Syrian Army captures Hawsh Al-Shallaq in Eastern Ghouta, nears Douma

Not long after the capture of the East Ghouta town of Mayda'ani, units from the Syrian Army's elite Republican Guard and the Special Mission Forces would continue their advance west of the aforementioned town onto the nearby village of Hawsh Al-Shallaq.

Following two days of nonstop clashes with Jaish Al-Islam, the Syrian Army managed to capture the town under the cover of missile and artillery strikes as Syrian and Russian warplanes pounded their rear positions and supply lines relentlessly.

Contrary to Jaish Al-Islam's claims, the Syrian Army did not suffer over a dozen casualties in the latest operations against the Saudi-backed group. Al-Masdar was able to confirm that three soldiers were killed in action, two Palestinians and one Syrian. However, AMN was not able to confirm the number of casualties in the ranks of Jaish Al-Islam, but that number is likely high given the faction's inability to halt the Syrian Army's continuous progress in the heart of Eastern Ghouta.

Those operations are said to be preliminary ahead of a massive anticipated government offensive that aims to expel all jihadist presence from the vicinity of the Syrian capital. The offensive is likely to be initiated towards the end of December or at the turn of the new year.
