Russian jets help the Syrian Army push back ISIS at Palmyra

The battle for Palmyra has been incredibly intense over the last four hours, with the Islamic State terrorists steadily advancing along several axes in and around the city.

According to a military source at the T-4 Military Airport, the terrorist group initially took the city after fierce clashes with the Syrian Arab Army; however, they were unable to take the entire district, thanks in large part to the bravery of the Shahin Group (Cheetah Forces) and Russian Air Force.

The Russian and Syrian air forces provided critical air support over the last two hours, striking several terrorist targets along the Sukhanah-Palmyra Road.

As of now, the Russian and Syrian air forces are pounding the Palmyra region of eastern Homs, forcing ISIS to flee the city's gates in order to avoid anymore casualties.

In May 2015, the Islamic State launched a similar attack that took 48 hours to effectively take control of Palmyra; this could likely happen again if the Syrian Arab Army does not recapture the Tar Mountains.
