Jihadist rebels surrender large town near Golan Heights to Syrian Army

The jihadist rebels have accepted a reconciliation agreement that would surrender the key town of Kanakir near the Golan Heights-Damascus border to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in exchange for amnesty.

According to a military source in Damascus, more than 1,500 militants from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham turned themselves into the Syrian Arab Army, as part of the reconciliation and peace agreement in Kanakir.

The agreement will allow civilians to return to their normal lives and use the Syrian government highways and institutions; they will also be transferred to a site of their choosing if they request it to the Syrian Arab Army.

For the Syrian Arab Army, the surrender of Kanakir gives them access to the West Ghouta-Golan Heights border, which will be crucial in the coming weeks when they begin their offensive near Hader.
