Russian reconciliation center says 17 shellings registered in Syria over last 24 hours


Seventeen shellings by illegal armed groups was registered in Syria over the last 24 hours, including 13 in the Damascus province, two in the Daraa province, one in Hama, and one in Quneitra, the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in a bulletin published on the Russian Defense Ministry's official website on Thursday.

"In the province of Damascus, Jaysh al-Islam groups affiliating with the opposition, opened fire from mortars and firearms at the settlements of Jaubar, Busayna, Barza, Kafer Batna, al-Abbasyin stadium and a road near the settlement of Douma," the Russian center said. "Groups of the terrorist organization Jebhat Fath al-Sham (Jebhat al-Nusra, banned in Russia)shelled from multiple rocket launcher systems, mortars and firearms the settlements of Jaubar (twice) Haush al-Shalaq, Haush Nasri, Arbil, Kepta and Harasta in the province of Damascus," the center added.

In the Daraa province, the settlements of Daraa and Hamer came under fire. Terrorists also shelled the settlements of Maharda (Hama province) and Jaba (Quneitra province).

"Russian Aerospace Defense Forces and Syrian Air Force did not deliver airstrikes at armed opposition groups that joined the cessation of hostilities and informed the Russian or US reconciliation centers about their locations," the bulletin said.

Ceasefire regime

Over the last 24 hours, two settlements joined the ceasefire regime in the province of Latakia, the Russian reconciliation center said. The total number of settlements that joined the ceasefire regime has increased to 1,057, the center added.

"Talks on joining the ceasefire regime continued with field commanders of illegal armed groups in the settlements of Muaddamyet al-Shih in the province of Damascus and groups of armed opposition in the provinces of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Quneitra. The number of armed groups that joined the ceasefire regime has not changed - 94," the bulletin said.

Humanitarian aid

Three humanitarian events were held over the last 24 hours. Civilians received humanitarian cargoes, including at temporary accommodation centers in East Aleppo: around two tonnes in the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood, around nine tonnes in the al-Mahalej neighborhood, as well as around one tonne in the city of Tartus.
