Top ISIS official killed near Palmyra

A top official for the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham" (ISIS) was reportedly killed on Friday after an airstrike struck his base at the oil rich town of Al-Sukhanah near Palmyra.

The Islamic State official was identified as "Umar As'ad," one of the terrorist group's top commanders operating in the eastern Homs countryside.

According to a military source in Damascus, the airstrike that killed this Islamic State commander was likely conducted by the Russian Air Force, despite no official confirmation.

The Russian Air Force has been carrying out airstrikes for a number of days over the Palmyra countryside, aiding the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies as they attempt to recover the oil fields they lost.
