Negotiations under way in Wadi Barada as millions remain without water

Negotiations to end the obstruction of water to Damascus are underway in Wadi Barada today, as delegations from the government and opposition meet inside this mountainous area in western Syria.

According to a military source in Damascus, the government demanded that the jihadist rebels allow mechanics to enter 'Ayn Al-Fijah and repair any damage to the water supply facilities.

The government has also demanded that the jihadist rebels not taint the water supply to Damascus again, as diesel fuel was found in the water civilians use in their homes.

In return, the jihadist rebels are asking the government to halt the military siege of Wadi Barada in order to allow their fighters to remain inside of this mountainous area.

Previous negotiations have gone sour between the two parties; however, the Syrian water crisis has prompted the government and opposition groups to renegotiate a settlement.
