Jihadist rebels assassinate Syrian general after peace talks in Wadi Barada

The jihadist rebels carried out the assassination of Brigadier General Ahmad Ghadban after the latest round of peace talks concluded in the Wadi Barada area.

According to a military source in Damascus, Brigadier General Ghadban was making his way back to the Syrian Arab Army's front-lines when a sniper opened fire on his vehicle, killing the retired officer outside of Wadi Barada.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the Syrian Arab Army believes the sniper was either a member of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham or Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front).

As a result of this attack on Saturday night, all peace talks in Wadi Barada have been suspended and the Syrian Arab Army will resume their siege on the final jihadist pocket in this rural area west of Damascus.

The retired general was a resident of 'Ayn Al-Fijeh and well-respected by both the rebels and government; his death was meant to halt the surrender of the area and block water from returning to the people of Damascus.
