ISIS-held Al Bab almost encircled as Syrian Army advances

With the recent advance made by the Syrian Army in southeast of the ISIS stronghold of Al Bab, The self-proclaimed Islamic State has been almost completely encircled.

Yesterday, the government troops managed to cut off the last supply route for ISIS, thus isolating the city of Al Bab from other ISIS-held territories in Al-Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.

Westward, the Turkish-backed rebels ousted the Islamic State militants from Bzaah village following fierce clashes. However, hours later, they retreated after a counterattack where ISIS detonated a VBIED inside the village, killing and wounding several fighters.

Now the Syrian Army and Turkish-backed forces are separated by less than 3 km to the southeast of Al Bab. The narrow corridor left are within close firing range of the Syrian troops.

As the race to capture Al Bab rages between Syria and Turkey, a potential face-off looms as the Syrian government clearly and repeatedly rated the Turkish military intervention 'illegal'.
