Diplomat says Russia-US contacts on Deir ez-Zor continue

Russia and the United States are not suspending contacts on the situation near Syria's Deir ez-Zor, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Wednesday.

"Our contacts are not suspended," the diplomat said.

Russia has not received any clarifications from Washington on the situation during the fighting in the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor, he went on. "A whole number of circumstances that the Defense Ministry cited regarding the areas where the militants are active and the location of the US special ops and US military advisers … these aspects still remain without any answer," Ryabkov said.

"We have not received any clarifications why the situation was like this," he added.
