The provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat said if the Taliban does not join the peace process the group will be destroyed in Helmand province.
More than 400 Taliban insurgents have been killed in operations in Helmand province over the past three months, local officials said on Sunday.
In addition, 65 other insurgents were wounded and 150 were arrested.
The Afghan security forces have conducted military operations in different parts of the province including the provincial capital Lashkargah city, Naw, Nahr-e-Siraj, and that military operations are currently ongoing in Nad Ali district of the province, provincial governor Hayatullah Hayat said.
"The Taliban are not capable anymore to face the security forces in the province," Hayat said adding that "if the Taliban does not join the peace process, the group will be destroyed by the security forces."
However, he did not provide further details.
This comes after hundreds of foreign troops have been deployed to the province to support the Afghan security forces in fighting the insurgents. Air support is also being provided.
