U.S. blacklists Taliban militant as terrorist
The United States has designated a Taliban regional commander it accused of masterminding a number of attacks in Afghanistan as a terrorist, the State Department said on Tuesday.
Qari Saifullah, the Taliban shadow deputy governor and an operational commander in Afghanistan's Zabul Province, has used Taliban fighters to organize terrorist activities against the Afghanistan government and the Coalition Forces, the State Department said in a statement.
Qari Saifullah has also directly ordered his subordinates to conduct attacks of various forms in Zabul Province against the government of Afghanistan, according to the statement.
With the designation, the U.S. forbids its citizens from engaging in transactions with Qari Saifullah and freezes all his property in the country.
The blacklist move was taken by the State Department in consultation with the Departments of Justice and Treasury.
