Three foreign citizens and one Afghani die in terrorist attack in Kabul
Three foreign citizens and one Afghani have died as a result of a terrorist attack in Kabul July 22. According to TOLOnews agency, there were American servicemen among the victims.
The attack was carried out on the police department for fighting drug trafficking, where foreign advisors were employed. A suicide bomber set off an explosive device attached to a motorcycle that was parked near the office's entry. Aside of four casualties, six people were wounded.
Taliban movement has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban has notably stepped up its activity amid the upcoming withdrawal of the main contingent of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
The situation in Afghanistan
July 17, the international airport of Kabul came under attack of militants. The attack was preceded by several blasts staged by suicide bombers. However, the Afghani security forces managed to repel the attack. All the militants were eliminated. The Taliban movement claimed responsibility for the attack.
May 12, Taliban militants announced the beginning of the "summer offensive" against Afghanistan's security forces and ISAF contingent that operates in the country since 2001. In these days, the extremists attacked the international airport in Kabul, the Baghram Air Base, dozens of strongpoints of the military, as well as seized a building belonging to the Ministry of Justice in the eastern Nangarhar Province.
On Tuesday, one of the Taliban leaders Aga Khan Motasim stated that the Taliban movement was not able to restore control over Afghanistan. In his opinion, "after the withdrawal of foreign troops the movement will not be able to restore past control over the country since there is no necessary support from the population".
