Iraqi PM urges end to support for al-Qaeda
In Iraq, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has urged political and tribal leaders to stop supporting armed groups in western Iraq, including Al-Qaeda, as military operations escalate in the cities of Fallujah and Ramadi.
"I am calling on those who are deluding themselves, to reconsider. They have been involved, without knowing, in supporting Al-Qaeda projects and protecting it in several ways, including giving media and political support. Now they are responsible for the consequences that our forces face, as they fight criminals and killers."
"There will be no retreat, until we eliminate al-Qaida militants and rid the people of Anbar of their evil acts. The people of Anbar asked the government for help, they called us to come to rescue them from terrorists, when the situation has become clear-cut to them. And when some politicians have asked to pull troops out of the province, the honest people of Anbar started calling for the return of the army to protect them and their dignity." said Nuri Al-Maliki, Iraqi Prime Minister.
