    Jurisdiction

    Article 221 of the Constitution of the Republic of Chad provides:

      "The Treaties or Agreements regularly ratified have, on their publication, an authority superior to that of the national laws, under reserve for each Agreement or Treaty of its application by the other party."
    (The Republic of Chad ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court on 01 November 2006 and, inter alia, is a State party to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949, their two Additional Protocols of 1977, the Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989 and the Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict of 2000).

    International Criminal Court

    Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: The Republic of Chad signed the Rome Statute on 20 October 1999 and deposited its instrument of ratification on 01 November 2006. The Statute entered into force for Chad on 01 January 2007.

    Upon ratification the Republic of Chad made the following notification under article 87 (1) and (2) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court:
      "The Government of the Republic of Chad maintains the diplomatic channel for communications and French as the working language in accordance with article 87 paragraphs 1 (a) and 2 of the Rome Statute."
