Taliban Cancels Peace Talks With US Officials: Report

Reuters says in a report that the decision has been made over a disagreement on the agenda of the talks.

Hours after reports about a possible meeting between the United States officials and Taliban representatives in Qatar this week on Wednesday, Reuters said in a report that the meeting has been canceled by the Taliban over an agenda disagreement.

Reuters was first to report about the meeting while quoting senior Taliban members.

“Both sides have agreed to not meet in Qatar,” senior Taliban members based in Afghanistan said as quoted by Reuters.

According to Reuters, the talks had been planned for two days starting Wednesday in Qatar.

The report says that the Taliban had rejected requests from regional powers to allow Afghan officials to take part in the discussion.

This comes as the efforts for a face-to-face peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban has increased both by the National Unity Government and the international community, the United States on the top.
