China urges safeguarding of post-war international order

China on Tuesday asked the international community to make concerted efforts to safeguard the outcome of World War II and protect the post-war international order.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press briefing that she was moved by a news report about German President Joachim Gauck's letter to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to apologize for the Leningrad siege on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad.

Hua said the way a nation's leaders reflect on history will decide the nation's future, noting that the modern international order under the leadership of the United Nations was built on the victory of the world anti-fascist war.

The victorious outcome of World War II and the post-war international order are the cornerstones of the peace, stability and prosperity of the current international community and need the protection of international society, she added.

Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the world anti-fascist war, and China will work with the international community to safeguard historical justice and protect the victory of World War II as well as world peace, stability and prosperity, Hua said.
