Libyan PM, British FM discuss illegal immigration

Libya's UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez Serraj on Wednesday met with the British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson here and discussed issues of security and illegal immigration.

The meeting was also attended by Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Sayala and British Ambassador to Libya Peter Millett, according to the media office of the prime minister.

Johnson confirmed Britain's support to the government's efforts to achieve consensus between the Libyan political parties. He also expressed his country's willingness to assist in achieving stability in Libya.

Serraj stressed on the importance of cooperation in security, health, energy and education between the two countries. He also expressed hope for Britain's assistance in lifting the arms embargo on the Libyan coast guards and border guards.

The two officials met earlier in May in Tripoli and also discussed political and security issues, as well as illegal immigration.

Serraj's unity government was appointed based on a UN-sponsored peace agreement signed by Libya's political rivals. However, the country remains politically divided amid chaos and insecurity.
